World Wide Tefillin Wrap - Sunday, February 2, 2020

9:30am

Minyan, Brunch and "Come Lay Tefillin!"

A hallmark of Jewish ritual life is the wearing of Tefillin during weekday morning prayers. The Torah commands us in the first paragraph of the Shema...

You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and you shall wear them as frontlets between your eyes.

Rabbinic Tradition created the ritualistic objects of Tefillin to be worn in the morning to fulfill these words of Torah. Several of us wear Tefillin here at BTBJ during morning services every Thursday and Sunday mornings, but not on Shabbat!

Join us for the "World Wide Wrap" as congregations all over the world celebrate this Jewish tradition. On Sunday, February 2, we will show you how Tefillin are put on at morning services starting at 9:30. We will explain a few concepts about Tefillin during prayer. After shul a little after 10:00, we will gather for breakfast and a discussion and show and tell about Tefillin until about 11:00. We will have extra sets to try on and to use. We will guide you how to buy your own set for yourself or someone else should you be motivated to do so.

Every weekday Jews the world over are wrapping Tefillin. One opinion states that observing this mitzvah is one way to hasten the coming of the Messiah! Join us to explore the world of Tefillin, how they are worn and why so many Jews wear them everyday!

As always, no experience or prior knowledge is needed. Come as you are and prepare to learn more about this significant Jewish mitzvah... the mitzvah of wearing Tefillin!

B'shalom,

Rabbi Saul Grife
