Suzanne Caster is a passionate Jewish educator with over 20 years of experience working with learners of all ages. She has served the BTBJ Religious School community as a faculty member since 2019 and as a member of the administrative team since 2020. She has also served as BTBJ's jkidACCESS Guide since 2021.
Originally from Georgia, Suzanne has crisscrossed the country pursuing her education. After graduating from the University of Georgia, where she earned a B.A. in Religion and B.S. in Psychology, she completed a Masters of Theological Studies in Hebrew Bible at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL. She is a Ph.D. candidate in Biblical Studies at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA.
Suzanne came to the Philadelphia area so her spouse, Josh, could pursue a rabbinical degree at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. She brings with her to the BTBJ community a love of text study, community building, and an insatiable curiosity. In the classroom, she centers students' learning needs, cultivates a co-learning atmosphere with her students, and empowers learners to take ownership of our Jewish traditions. As an administrator, she finds joy in coaching Jewish educators, collaborating on projects, and streamlining paperwork. As BTBJ's new Education Director, Suzanne is excited to serve the BTBJ Religious School Community in a deeper way. When not at BTBJ, you can find Suzanne crocheting, doing yoga, traveling, and spending time with Josh and their dog, Barley.
